Legislation - Playground - Safety Floors
According to Ministerial Decision 28492/2009 (Official Government Gazette 931/B/18.05.09) which determines the conditions and technical specifications for the construction and operation of counties' and communities' playgrounds, outdoor playgrounds should have safety floors whose specifications match the installed toys.
For heights of fall greater than 60 cm, it is necessary to install a safety floor to protect the child's head in case of an accident.
All safety floors are tested and certified according to their Head Injury Criterion (HIC value).
The suitability and quality of rubber tiles also depend on water permeability, flammability, mechanical strength and abrasion resistance.
The certificates of suitability of rubber tiles for use in outdoor playgrounds are as follows:
- European Safety Standards ELOT EN 1177:2008, ELOT EN 1176-1:2017 and EN 71-3.
- ISO 9001:2015
- ISO 14001:2015
